You want to be a model?

You know, you can’t just walk into a modeling agency and expect them to sign you… How old are you? Height? Weight? Are you actually serious about modeling, or is this just a whim?

No I haven’t, but I know somethings about what your asking. I’m only 5’4 and when I was your age I wanted to model, but they were strict on height. Now that I’m older, I realize that we can model our face, hands, feet, legs, back, hair etc.
The catwalk is not all there is in nyc, but it does help your exposure, because high clients go to these functions.

Have you considered checking into runway for petite modeling?

Also, take pictures of your best face profiles, and some of your best body parts. Like legs, hands, teeth etc. so you can put them into your portfolio/resume. Strike some great poses and show as many ****** expressions as you can also. This will help.

New York is cut throat and professional. Agencies invest alot of monies/time into their endorsments, so they expect their models to invest time in looking their best too, so they can represent the agency well. This could lead to a job and more to come, plus money for the agency and you!
Exercise, good eating habits, focus, attitude, and taking care of your skin especially etc., is of upmost importance.

Sometimes it can get tough, but when the tough gets going, you get tough and going. If this is what you really want be persistant and keep going. No matter how fustrated you might get, or not. Keep an upbeat attitude and it will show!

Your going to run into all types of characters and cultures and attitudes in nyc. When it comes to business and large sums of money, don’t EXPECT agencies to be really nice. Expect them to be professional. Research their agency first before you have a meeting. You don’t want an idiot representing you. Your interest are important too.

If your planning on making this a career, then you might want to consider moving there. They’ve got plenty of schools there, so you can finish. It is costly though. Everything in nyc is expensive.

KEEP AWAY FROM THE DRUGS. They will destroy a career. I say this, because there are parties/places there, that hand out drugs like candy.

Be careful of false modeling advertisments!

I’ve been there, done that in nyc. I’m actually planning on going back this year. Maybe, I think.

Also, it is very fast paced, and you walk alot.

Please don’t starve yourself to look like a waif-like model. Just develop good eating habits with exercise. Starving will ruin your skin etc. If they tell you to lose weight, then get a nutritionist to assist you and exercise trainer.

Also, before you go, PREPARE. Take a travel book on NYC. If you can, have your portfolio/resumes ready for both the acting/modeling.
When you get there make sure you get a good subway map. The east and west and north and south of nyc can get confusing. The lower part, by the finacial district was the hardest for me to get around in.

I forgot, don’t let all the shopping/restaurants/things etc. distract you from what you are actually planning to do there! There is so much to see, and so many cultures to learn about. It’s great! but keep focused.

    Hope that helped,
    Good Luck!
    michelle
