Becoming a model is very very tough. If you have the current/new “looks” there is a chance.

If however, at the risk of being brutal – you’re 4’5″, 190 lbs, spotty etc etc. Take a deep breath and realistically evaluate yourself. There are a lot more satisfying careers for less heartache.

So, yes it’s possible. You need to get in with the BIG agencies. But you’re up against ten’s of thousands of wanna-be’s.

Plan your presentation/portfolio carefully. (Approach emerging photographer’s from College who need free models to do their own portfolios/projects).

Look for a remarkable or distinctive angle to sell yourself/look that is unique.

Big tip? You will meet some incredible S**t’s in this biz, be nice, be very sweet and nice to EVERYONE! And hon, I MEAN everyone!!! From the Taxi-driver, to the cleaning lady, to the stylist, to the receptionists etc etc etc etc.

Be prepared to walk the pavements and starve for a good hard time.

Hook up with and Agency such as Ford in NYC- number is in the NYC phone-book and can be found on-line. (Call when you have a porti and make an appointment). And then work your way thru’ the industry. A “lesser” Agency representing you is worthless – they are in the business to make money as are the models. (BUT there is a lot to be said about a new aggressive Agency taking you on – lot’s of “if’s” in this biz).

It’s generally a “short-term” career, it is VERY HARD work to actually do, and emotionally devastating if your ego isn’t huge enough to cope with the rejection’s.

(Build-up your family ties. Support is vital).

I used to book models for the Advertising Agency, you would not believe what these people went thru’ to earn a buck!
