Looking for work as Fashion Photographer in Milan. What’s the best way to meet clients?

I’m a fashion/beauty photographer in New York city and I’ll be going to Italy next week for 6 weeks. I work with many big Model agencies in NYC and was wondering if it’s possible to meet clients through them?
What’s the best way to find work there?

First, you need to know that it isn’t legal for you to work here without having a visa that allows you to do so unless you’re from the EU. This website of the Italian government has visa information:. A fashion model can work here for up to 90 days without a visa. They may be asked for proof of the purpose of the visit on entry to Italy. As a photographer, I would think that you need a self-employment visa.

If you work with the high profile model agencies in the US, you should ask them to provide introductions to contacts here. That will be much more productive than trying to get an introduction through someone here who doesn’t really know you or your work.

    Hi!

The fashion market in Milan works pretty much the same as the one in Nyc, so in order to work over here as a photographer networking is fundamental. Therefore if your only connections in Milan are through the Model agencies you work for in Nyc, you’d better start from that. You should try to find a way to be introduced to the big photographic agencies they work with (like for instance Blob Creative Group) and start meeting people, showing them your portfolio, etc. The more people that work in the industry you’ll get to know, the more likely you’re going to find a job.
This said, the market in Milan is very competitive but if you can find your way around it’s pretty easy to work (even without a Visa, I must say…).
